TPMS indicator light:
- Turns on and then off after a moment if everything is OK
- Stays on permanently when one or more tyres are low
- Flashes and then stays on permanently when the system fails, e.g. due to a low sensor battery
Why use TPMS?
- Correct pressure reduces tyre wear, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions
Types of TPMS:
- Passive TPMS uses the rotational speed of the wheels to detect a pressure drop, but does not indicate a drop at all wheels simultaneously
- Active TPMS uses sensors in each tyre to measure pressure and temperature in real time and send the data to the on-board computer
If one sensor is depleted, it is recommended to replace all four sensors as their life expectancy is usually similar.
